Printer Testing

From College of Science IT Wiki

In order to trouble shoot printer problems, especially print quality issues, you want to have a few nice test documents. I've found these documents to be useful over the years.

  • This is a PDF version of the 1956 EIA Resolution chart. Originally intended to test television cameras, this has a good mixture of gradients, resolutions wedges, and circles. PDF (91k)
  • A resolution test pattern ranging from 200 to 4800 DPI. This is a vector image so the resolution will scale automatically to your printer. PDF (41k)
  • A simplified resolution test wedge. PDF (28k)
  • Some gray bars ranging from 100% black to light gray by 1/5 steps. PNG (.7k)
  • The Windows Color chooser dialog box. Good for seeing color matching between monitor and printer. BMP (502K)
  • Cyan, Magenta, Yellow, and Black bars. Some programs may not properly render this TIFF, which does not have a color profile. 4"x4" at 600DPI. TIFF (110k)
